2004 Explorer XLT

I have a 2004 Explorer XLT. I have always been able to use my keypad to get access when I didnt have or want to use my keys. However, one night a couple weeks ago, my brother borrowed my car and left the keys in there and called me for the code. I think he entered the wrong one or was trying to figure it before he called me, because by the time he called me, he said that the keypad was not even lighting up and that the code didnt work, "some one must have thought it was their car and tried to get in with the keypad"....lol. Long story short, he called a locksmith, my keypad lights up now, but the original manf code does not work. could he have reset it to a new code, but even so, i have read that the manf code would always work. and is there a way to reset it? THANK YOU

It's possible that someone damaged one of the buttons when they were messing with it.

To check, try pushing one button, let the pad light up. Then wait until the lights shut off. Try the next button, repeat until you try them all. If one of the buttons is damaged and you need that button for the code, it's not registering the number when you push it.

I went out and tried them all. They all work but the 7/8 button. But my code does not have either in it. Any suggestions on how to fix?

You can try replacing the keypad. Check the junkyards first.
