For all the people who have gotten thick aftermarket rubber floor mats listen up. When I reassembled the throttle cables after working in the engine, I tested the the tightness by having my friend press the pedal while I check for play. Turns out that I had maybe half an inch left in room for the throttle cables to pull. Turns out that my thick rubber floor mats were blocking my gas pedal. A quick fix with the snippers and I was back in business. Now the throttle opens all the way when the gas pedal is fully pressed.

Total Cost: $0
Time Spent: 2 min.

Now this bad boy really drops down into second and kicks in!

Thats for a stretched cable. But will work for this also. Maybe I'll take a look at mine too.

My bad ;) I need to get a look at mine sometime. Anyone post pics on how to do it? the ones from the site come up as X's

Y'all floor your truck that often? wow, i try to avoid acceleration at all costs... gas costs enough as it is and i get bad enough mpg's driving like grandma

Its good to have that extra oomph to get you to merge quicker when entering a highway. But me, like Hokie, watch my MPG carefully. Just paid $35 for a full tank today.

I agree with Xfactor, when I want to merge/pass I want to do it THEN and not wait. ;)

i got a set of floor mats from my friends ranger when he totaled it. i got some nice, fast acceleration a few times while merging. it seems the pedal got stuck on the grooves of the mat and theres nothing stopping me except reaching down and pulling the mat out a bit. scary stuff.

I took the slack out of my v8 awhile ago. I floor it all the time. Off every stop light...ect it really help's

I Choose to live here? So it's OK for the Gas Companies to f#(& me because of where I live?

Well, why does everything cost more on the West Coast? I don't know. It's some economic thing I guess.

You oughtta see the cost of living in Hawaii...

When I was in canada gas converted to over $2 bucks a gallon.

If you're looking for good milage why are you driving an X??? why not drive some jap crap 4 banger that gets 35 mpg?

Oh and if you don't regularly (at least once every two weeks) use 100% acceleration, your truck's computer will forget how and then you won't ever be able to. That's what happened to my grandpa's 1999 crown vic. You see, he drives like a, um, well, a grandpa and never pushes the trottle more than half way. Now, when he finnaly needed to use full throttle (merging in heavy traffic) he found that after half throttle the engine hesitates and won't produce any more power than at half throttle. Since than he's taken the vehicle to 3 independant mechanics, and 2 Ford dealerships and they all say that nothing is wrong. I personally think that the computer "learned" his driving habits and no longer remembers how to produce full power.

My throttle gets stuck on my floor mats weekly, and is rather scary sometimes. So I will be looking into this, Thanks!

I highly doubt this is what has happened. The computer cannot think on its own. It has no learning or adaptability capabilities. The computer will do only what it was programmed to do. My guess is it sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me. Just a guess but it sounds more than likely thats what it is. Yes, the fuel delivery is programmed into the computer also, but there are other aspects of the fuel system that come into play here that are liable to fail/misfuntion.

On another note there was that one movie with the robot in it that came to mind while reading this. I dont remember what its called, but it was damn good. The robot learned to have feelings and think on its own. Good stuff. Hope this helps.

I know it sounds crazy, but the ford dealerships took the whole fuel delivery system apart and found every part to be in good working order. the computer is the only thing left.
