things always work in theory but its usually a whole nother story u jump in a project. i was looking in the junkyard today for a set of stock rims for new tires and i stumbled across a 96 or 97 4 door x with a 5speed, 5.0 4 wheel drive(maybe awd i dunno) in theory this would the most simple swap?just take and unplug my harness out my 95 sport and swap everything over from the 5 liter x.my only other question is did the 5.0 xs every come with a transfer case that just had 2wd and not the 4 wheel auto where the front axle only kicks in when the rear slips? i searched all over the site and not come across anyone that has done this that i can find

Like no one has swapped a 5.0 with a 5 speed and 4wd (or awd)?

The 5.0 isn't the point...............you know, some of them came stock on 96+. The whole combo is where it gets weird.

i didn't say it was 4x4 i was asking if they came with 4wd and not the awd. and it had a 5 speed no idea if it was stock or not

The 5.0s were either 2wd or AWD. And if it had a 5 speed and a 5.0 then something was swapped.

it had 5.0 emblems on it and it had a stick because i got in it to look at the inside for the the shift boot because mine is torn to ****, i never looked under the hood i just made the assumption that it was a 5.0 maybe someone put a different motor and tranny in it i don't know i didnt really have alot of time to look at it, it was hit hard in the back quater panel

Or maybe some poser put 5.0 Emblems on a 4.0 rig.

boy would i feel like an ass, guess i should have looked under the hood huh

Yeah, V8s are 4x4, it just doesn't have 4lo. Which i'll remedy, this summer I hope.

no they are NOT 4x4 they are AWD..there's a big differance

we i went back to the junkyard this morning and that v8 emblems on it do not look like the one posted above. i poped the hood and it is a 4.0 motor, sorry to start anything i should have looked closer before i posted.i guess my question now is if i found a v8 explorer and got the whole car how hard would it be to put the v8 out of it with a 5 speed out of a mustang?woiuldn't it just be swaping the v8 harness into mine, would all the plugs on the harness be teh same as my v6 besides the plugs for the motor?i guess what i'm asking is if i started out with a v8 explorer harness would i still have to slice the two harnesses together? i think the biggest prob will be the computer because i want a manual and not the damn auto

you would need all the harness from the v8 you would need the GEM from the v8..pretty much whatever you can get your hand's on..i geuss you could put a stang manual in it..(i hate manual's) if that's what YOU want to do

somthing to think about

The Stang Manny isn't going to bolt up to a transfer case.

what i'm asking is how would it affect the computer,i mean the the computer would think there is an auto tranny and there isn't. i seen a couple 95-98 f150s in the junkyard with a 5 speed and i think would work if i got everything related to the tranny.i don't plan to use the stock transfer case anyway i have a np205 transfer case out of an 70's f250. i know this will mean i need new or rebalanced driveshafts. i main worry is the wiring and/or computer, the wiring should just be a matter of unpluging the v6 harness and pluging in the v8 harness
