Inconsistant Running

Hi guys,

I realize I was just taking part in a thread about this but somewhere it got WAY off the subject.

This is a question about Erractic Running, NOT Hesitation or Idle problems.

I own a '98 4.0 SOHC Sport 4.10 Lim-Slp

Sometimes I start her up and "she" runs smooth, quiet and strong (pulls hard)

Sometimes I start her up and "she" Is a hog Noisy, more vibrations in the pedal and need more throttle to do the same work/get up to speed.

Everyhting Else is fine, idle solid, no hesitation - just runs different like I have two different trucks, kinda like when she runs good she is a SOHC and when she runs bad she reminds me of my old OHV '91

Any Ideas??

How many miles are on the buggy? Could need a new set of plugs and wires. Could be a clogging fuel filter issue. I just replaced (71,000 miles) the wires, plugs and fuel filter on my 97 Sport SOHC to fix a sporatic miss and occational road speed jolt. 3 of my plugs were burnt to a .70 gap, and 2 to a .80 gap. I went with MOTORCRAFT wires and double platinum plugs. Runs like a champ.

In response to your question: 37k on "her" , got her at the dealer at about 26k and the fuel filter was done @ 30k

I have no jolting and no miss, and i'm an expert at "The Miss" on my '91, needed plugs every 10k!

no miss either,

Just runs good and then doesn't run good and then runs good and the doesn't!

I need an icon for pulling my hair out! !
