Infinity reference 5x7 owners, or anyone, please help!

I got my infinity reference 5x7's and I got the wire harness to install them w/o cutting the stock harness. The harness works great. Anyway, I tried to put the speakers in and they wouldn't fit, any way I tried! (The harness doesn't interfere). The big rubber thing that holds the window track in place is in the way. I noticed that the Ford speaker is angled so that the magnet doesn't hit the rubber thing. I also noticed that I am probably going to have to drill holes because none of the holes match up, and last time I did that I drilled half way through a window! Can anyone help me on how to install these? Does anyone make an adapter so I can angle it? Or do I make my own? Thank you.

i have had this problem before. What i did was i made my own adapter out of MDF wood. What i did was I measured out how far the speaker sticks out. in my case it was around 3/4 of an inch. After this I went to the store and bought a small sheet of 3/4 of an inch MDF wood and laid the the speaker down on the wood (magnet up) and traced it out. I then cut the piece out. After you have the outline the mark the wood for the speaker to go through and cut out. Then I marked the old holes on the wood, then drilled them. This will alow you to mount it to the facroty holes. Then market the holes for your new speakers. This should work. If you don't want to do this your local car audio store should have an adapter that will work.

For the front speakers there is an angled mounted position for the stock speakers. You have to keep these connected to the doors to clear the window. If you didn't remove them then I don't know what's wrong. My Pionner's fit fine.

MrSteve you said "You have to keep these connected to the doors to clear the window." What do you mean by "these?" For the rear speakers do I have to make an adapter also or can I just drill holes and screw them in? I have never taken off the rear door panels. Thanks

alright bro, chill out. this is not a problem. i JUST installed these speakers on my cousins 97 EB. if you dont already know, the front door speakers are a bit different from the rear doors. im pretty sure that i used the speaker trim ring that Infinity supplied for all for speakers. i just installed the trim ring right under the speakers and it gives the speakers JUST enough clearance for back side of the steel door. You were correct when you stated that the screws dont line up. but not to worry. i think i screwed in at least 3 of the 4 screws cause the 4th screw just would not line up. 3 is enough. dont worrry, they aint goin anywhere. and if you cant line them up, then you better just have at least 2 and make sure you screw in the diagonals for maximum support. if none of the screws fit, then get a new explorer.

ok, now for the front speakers. im sure i know how to remedy your problem. when you took out the front speakers, there was a ring that either was attached to the speakers or clipped onto the door. DO NOT DISCARD!!! this trim ring slightly aims the speaker towards the center of the car, because there is the window guide directly behind the front speaker. install your infinity's right onto this trim ring. if you are hitting the window guide, you are missing the factory trim ring. if you dont have the trim ring no more, you are screwed. have fun.

What do you mean the trim ring? The stock one fits fine because it it's metal basket is angled on one side. Does the angled thing come off? It looks to me like its one piece. Thanks

Yes the angled thing is what I believe he was talking about and yes you do need it.

Boy do I feel stupid. I thought the angled thing and the speaker were one piece. I thought that because those 4 screws that actually screw into the angled thing looked like they just held the grill on. But then I figured those screws are pretty heavy duty for grills, so I popped em out, the speaker slid out, and the angled thing stayed in place. I feel really dumb. New speakers are so much better than stock, Thanks for your help.

No problem. I think we'll add this to the "sticky" at the top of this forum because i've seen people ask this question before. I knew the speaker had to fit!!
