Info on different Tranfer Cases

I have searched the forums for info on the types and differences on TC's and came up with zilch. Can anybody give me a listing on the different 2nd and first gen TC's, and the types like the 4406 and such.

Try searching the transmissions, transfer cases, and differential section of this forum for terms like '4406' '4405' and read the stickies at the top of the section. There is plenty of info there, and summarizing all the changes is not an easy thing.

Well I have a 4406 Transfer case, and would like to know more about it. I have a 98 Mounty, and a V8, so is this correct, or did someone swap it out for this one(stock to 4406) Is this selectable 4wd ranges, or all time 4wd? If it is selectable, how do I get to select the gears?
