I've changed the hub/bearing assemblies on my truck already...on my stang to pull it apart enough to do the ball joints requires a new alignment is this required?
Are they as easy as my stangs?

Never done any on an IFS front end. I just finished them on my Dana 44 (from a 77 f150) and it wasn't all that bad. I had the front end stripped down completely since it's being rebuilt, so we just used the impact and Snap-On ball joint press and they came right out. Went in much easier. Not sure if you'd need an alignment or not. If you do though, it'd be a nice time for a TT. :)

as long as you don't mess with the essentrics (where the upper control arm mounts to the frame) and don't take the lower control arm off you shouldn't need an alignment. You shouldn't be messing with toe either so you should be fine.

You didn't say which joints were shot. The uppers require the entire control arm to be replaced, as its one integrated piece. The lowers can be replaced by themselves.

My tire place told me I needed all new ball joints and tried to sell me two lowers and the "last" upper they had ("But I need all four, right?"). When a friend of mine tested my front tires, he found only one lower really needed replacing. I went ahead and replaced the lowers with re-greasables so I won't have to do it again, but the lowers aren't too bad of a project. Get the ball joint press from Autozone. $30 deposit, fully refundable upon return.
Best of luck,
Karl

I decided not to keep the explorer and fix this issue. Thanks for the reply's

Found me a deal on a Marauder to good to pass up. If all goes well the trade will go down tomorrow.
