working on a 02 4.6 explorer ,ok this thing has been a nightmare from day 1..got new timing kit installed and got timing cover on along with power steering pump pressed on then tried to get balacner on an it tightens all the way up to the timing cover right against it rubbing it an motor still not turning like it should it just keeps tightning...i know for a fact the 2 timing gears are right i remember putting them up against the old ones an there the same also i know for fact i got the crank sensor wheel on it ..its like i need a 1/2 spacer or something... can someone please tell me what the hell. its really driving me crazy..i just done the same procedure with a 00 jeep 4.7 an it was a breeze .

also i can stick a lil needle in the hole in timing cover (where crank sticks out) mesure it an stick it up against the balancer an its like the balancer needs another half inch on it to be right

Need alot more info here but maybe your crank is walking, honestly a half inch is way too much for wrong gears, loose crank or anything, you sure you put all your parts back on?

pic?

is the balancer straight? is the timing cover on correctly?

my guess would be the 2 or 4 bolts from the oil pan one is not in the cover but behind it, pushing the cover out if its not straight with the pulley.

waskly good guess ill check that but yes im certain that the parts is on there i meen of course the 2 lower sprockets is on an i know for fact the crank sensor wheel is on cuz i had to take cover back off cuz i forgot it maybe not exactly half inch but close

the only thing you could of done if the timing cover is on right, is install the lower double sprocket backwards.

yea but wouldnt it be the same width either way?... i guess ill pull the cover tommorow it has to be something visable when i pull the cover

no it would not, the double sprocket, behind the crank gear has one side longer then the other, what happens is that is what the damper bolts to.

if its on backwards, you will have more play for the damper to go into.

goes on like this.

ok my timing gears dosent have the sleeve part on either side... an timing mark is on one side so it has to be on right ...but i noticed the sensor wheel would be rding against the chains also as it dont have nothing to stop it before hitting the chains...i love fords but the 4.6 is driving me crazy lol

did you put new gears in? if yes, compare them to the old, imo they are wrong.

yup had a wrong sprocket ..damn ebay...it didnt have that extra lip on it like shown in your pic faceing outwards...

also i left out the plates behind the tensioners because it almost plugged the oil hole does thst matter?
