Im going to try to install a backup camera in my wifes 2006 Toyota Matrix xr. Has anyone had experience with these? I've heard that you can splice into the reverse light power wire to power the camera (so that it turns on when you put it in reverse). Its going to be hooked up to a Pioneer Avh-p3200dvd deck. Anything else i should worry about?

I have a back up camera installed, (but it is not facing the rear, it is set up to "see" when my front tires are). The directions did state to splice into the back-up light. All hardware was included in the package.
The camera powered the transmitter.
I'm not sure about the Pioneer unit, I don't have that in my rig.
Are you getting a wireless transmitter or a hard wire system?

its a wired setup. I picked it up pretty cheap off amazon (i think the brand is Boyo...it was $27). The instruction were limited, I'll probably try installing it towards the end of the week.

OK, good price for a system.
Hardwiring it into the Pioneer system I have no idea on that. But there has to be a way. I would think it would be like wiring an accy into a DVD.

There is an AV jack in the back for a backup cam, that part i know, what i wasn't quite sure of, was how to hook it up to the reverse lamp. I can just tap into the left or right pos/neg wires at the rear of the car, and that's it?

More than likely yes, could probably get quick splice connectors so there's really no soldering or taping involved, just a simple click and go.

The quick splice connectors were in the kit I bought. The directions did state to use them to splice into the backup lights.

thanks for all the info, i'll keep you guys updated on the process.

I would like to get one of these kits for my Avic unit, let us know how easy it was to install!
