I tapped the switched 12V on the auto-dim mirror. It is a true ACC switched 12V source. I used two 1/4" length blade connectors that are wedged into the back of the molex connector. You could also splice the connector for a more permanent install.

I'm feeding it to a small 12V/5VDC@3A buck converter that I mounted to the back of the mirror with 3M double-sided adhesive. From the converter, it powers my Mini 0805 dash cam. The 0805 has a built in battery for soft shutdowns.

After reducing the converter's cable length, the total wiring length is under 1 foot, and the whole system is removable in under 2 minutes (minus the leftover adhesive)

Thanks for this, as I also want to hardwire right at the rearview mirror also.

This is the pinout for the rear-view mirror connector for a 2012 Explorer. The 2016 has more wires, but the original pins are still the same: you want 1 and 4.

Do you have a pic of the final install? Apparently Santa is dropping one down my chimney this month :)

How did your install go? How did you hide the wires for the back camera? Did you end up taking the rear hatch panel off? Have one of these n the way and planning my install. Any feedback and tips would be appreciated.

Hi guys,

Anyone running a Blackview DR650GW-2CH in a 2016 Explorer? I'd love some advice on hardwiring (I also got the Power Magic Pro), using add-a-fuse devices, hiding wires, etc, etc. Thanks for any help!

I haven't gotten around to it yet. Probably not until January. So, I guess I'll turn your question around and ask YOU for any feedback and tips! :)

Being a newbie here...why would you want to install this feature? Blackvue...I mean.

I am sure I will be able to tell you what not to do.
