Installing a tranny temp sensor

I've had this gauge sitting in my room for years now and would like to install it. Stock set up on a 00, could I just drill and tap the pan? I'd like to get an accurate reading as possible

OR you can get the Perma-Cool filter, it has a mounting place for the temp sensor.
They even have a kit that comes with everything.

What does that run price wise? Right now I'm just looking to mount a temp sender in the pan, the run the wires and what not. Anyone with experience is encourage to chime in
