I am wanting to put a different HU in my Mountaineer because I am having the problem with the display not lighting up.Installing the radio is no problem and I don't really care about controling the volume form the steering wheel, but I also have other controls there that I don't want to screw up.So i guess my question is;If I put a different radio in will the steering wheel controls for everything besides the radio still work?

If you go with an aftermarket radio, some companies make converter boxes that utilize the radio's remote functions (to have the same controls). If you go with a Ford unit that has a different pin structure, your best bet will be to get a copy of the wiring diagrams for both and splice.
