Installing an aftermarket stereo

I have a 2002 V8 4.6 Explorer.

Can anybody please tell me where I can locate the wire for the backup lamp and the power supply side wire for the parking brake switch?

I am installing a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH receiver.

This receiver requires you to connect a lead wire to detect the on/off status of the parking brake. There is one wire connected to plunger on the parking brake. The diagram for installation shows there should be two wires, one ground and the other power supply side. I need to clamp a lead to this wire.

My second issue is I also need to connect a wire to one of the two backup lamps. I need to connect to the one in which the voltage changes when the gear shift is in the reverse position. This is for a rear view camera I hope to connect sometimes in the near future that will display on this near receiver.

I am good on everything else, I know how to remove the factory stereo and all of that, but I am unsure of the two things listed above. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can't help you with the parking break wire. But for the reverse wire, remove the driver's side kick panel and door sill trim piece. Under that you'll see two bundles of wires. In one of the bundles you'll find a black wire with a pink stripe. That is the wire going to the reverse light. There are two sets of these wires, you'll want the one that is thicker. To verify, feel free to remove the rear taillamp and look at the black/pink wire connected to the reverse lamp bulb. It's the same wire.

For others who need this information: on my 2002 Explorer V8 4.6L, the wire you need to tap into for the head unit to detect the parking brake status is NOT light green! In fact you won't even FIND the wire you need at the parking brake switch. The wire you need is connected to the BRAKE pedal switch. This mythical light green wire that I searched for high and low is just that...mythical! On my Explorer the wire you want is tan and black. I clamped into that and bingo! I now have more features when I am parked and have the parking brake on. I know some bypass this feature, but I see no point as I am the only one that drives my Explorer and I value my life more than trying to watch video while I am driving!

On some Explorers that wire is indeed light green, just not on this one. So if you can't find a green wire, check for a tan and black wire. I found this information here:

It is under the brake (+) near the bottom of the table. It states light green (+) or tan/black (+).

I am SO CLOSE I can feel it. Someone help! I found a tan/brown wire with a black stripe...ALONG WITH a solid green wire..on some sort of plug in right above the long bar part of the foot break. Would THIS be what you are talking about, jmiah?

The parking brake switch actually switches the ground. I just tied my wire into my grounds and all is well. I have video capabilities all the time. I have not and will not ever have the video playing while the vehicle is in motion. This was just a lot easier than running the wire to the parking brake switch.

I have the same explorer and year I have done the same just ground the wire now my DVD plays all the time even when driving .
