I am in the process of installing a stainless steel billet grille on my 99 explorer and im not sure how much of the middle of the grille needs to be cut out. So far I have cut out the center crossbars but im not sure how much more I need to cut or if I just need to sand down the bumps left from where I cut it. Also do I need to repaint the center where I had to sand the grille down. I have directions but they are not very clear and dont have pictures.

Take a look at this thread:

Also, search for Billet Grille install, I know someone had a nice qrite up of what you are doing, with the painting etc.

But anyway, cut and sand the cross bars down, that should be good, then I taped my chrome areas up and just painted the inside black (so the area past where the grill insert will go won't be noticable). It's pretty simple, just take your time and think it through/line everything up.

Well after a lot of work cutting, sanding, drilling, and painting I finished. I also had to cut the screws down and cut up the plastic under the grill to get it to fit but it is on now. What is the latch extension for? I dont think my explorer needs one. Thank you for the help.
