I am looking to get rid of some rattles that occur when the music is pumped. I am starting by dynamatting the doors which seem to rattle the most as well as the right sub-woofer area of my 99 EB. I think I understand the principles of mass-adding to the metal door frame. My question is: Will adding the dynamat to the aluminum stop the plastic trim from rattling?

Another question.....I have searched but have not found a clear process for removing the passenger trim to expose my subwoofer. Could someone please help. I appologize if it has been done before.

Depending on where you install the dynamant (or like material) you can sound deaden the doors to keep road noise out, or keep resonances to a minimum. I applied material to the inside of the outer door skin and applied material to the back side of the plastic door trim. The door skin was done first and dramatically improved the sound because my amps were not fighting with noise my exhaust and tires produce.
I then coated the trim. It made a dramatic improvement also. The plastic would resonate to the point of a buzz/vibration during some music. Now that is fixed.
One thing I never realized was how much the plasic trim "colored" the sound. With the trim sound deadened, my front stage is much more transparent.

Hope this helps, I would coat both surfaces.

Thanks

Thanks a ton. I haven't heard anyone mention matting the trim before and I have plenty of trim buzz. I just wanted to make sure that this was a good thing to do before buying all the matting.

Shop around, Dynamat is $$$$. You can use other products and get similar/the same results. I use something called Mac Wrap (sp?). It is used to wrap the joints of concrete drainage pipes. I work for a construction co., so we have plenty.

you can get sound proofing from 6 square feet from shwerin williams for 25 bucks... a pack of like 36sqft for a 100

a trick i always used was taking a small butane torch and heating up the sound proofing to mold it to the metal. helps with putting the interior back togeather and also looks a lot nicer =)

I do car audio installs and i have an 04 xls dynatmat has what they call tac mat it is a foam based material spray some srpay adhisive on the inside of the door panal and on the tac mat apply it to the door panal make make sure you cut out for the door toi function normal and this stops the rattleing and also alot more of the road noise that comes through
any other qustions let me know
