I just got a 91 xlt with 4wd. The previous owners recently replaced the manual transmission and did not put the rear driveshaft back on. Does anyone have any pictures or detailed description on how to put it back on? I havent done this before and want to make sure it is done right.

It just slides into the trans and bolts to the rearend with 4bolts..pretty straight forward. Put the trans in neutral so you can spin it to align it with the rear and I use blue locktight.

Oh ok I didn't realize it was that easy thanks!

This is in a explorer right?? Yea its pretty easy, I carry a spare drive shaft in my truck so if I break a ujoint on the trail I just swap the whole thing out.takes like 5mins;)

Yeah its a 91 xlt. I dont have bolts for it so now i have to find out where I can get those....

Check to see if he put them back in the rear flange. Thats what I do with mine so they dont get mixed up or lost.
you probably can just pick up some grade 8 and replace them but I would try a junk yard first

The guy I got it from did not have the bolts when they replaced the transmission, that's why the driveshaft never got put back on. Apparently they got lost or some ****. Now I have to replace them. Autozone doesn't have them, so I will have to find a junkyard to pull some from.
The alternator is making squealing noise now, and the battery won't hold a charge. SHEESH!!!
Why would the temp gauge read cold, when the radiator hoses are warmed up and it's obvious the engine is warm? Is that a stuck thermostat?

Bad coolant sensor. Little sensor on top of the TS housing.

o that sucks..just a fyi if you go to replace the alt they make a 130 amp for a 97 thats a direct fit and about the same price compare to the stock 90amp.

X2

Ok. I will check that out. Does anyone have any pictures of the sensor on a vehicle?

The sensor you are looking for is above the thermostat housing. It has two wires coming out from the connector. It is not so easy to get at as the neck of the top radiator hose is right on the way. The other sender is on the drivers side and is very easy to get to. This is NOT the one you need to replace.

JD's advice on the alternator is a good one and one I second.

Well, already went and got a stock size alternator. Thanks for the input. The bolts were nowhere to be found so I am hitting my auto salvage tomorrow morning.
