One of the wires going into the instument panel dimmer switch has a break in it causing the radio back ground lights and some of the instrument panel not to work. Does anyone have an idea as to which wire it could be? There are six wires and they are; green w/orange stripe, black w/blue stripe, tan w/orange stripe, black w/red stripe, red w/black stripe and a black wire. Would it be best to replace the whole connector by cutting of the old one and reconnecting a new one or to try and repair each wire?

You've obviously pulled the trim panel to look at the wires, I assume...since you know the colors. The way those wires are routed behind the panel, I don't see how you could replace an individual wire without a lot of very tedious hard work. And a repair (splice) would be equally difficult, unless the break is very close to the switch.

What makes you think a wire is broken or shorting? They are quite well protected back there, but anything is possible...chafing is a possibility...been know to happen before. Is it possible the sw is bad? Or maybe a loose connector? If it's just the sw or a connector...easy fix. If it's a wire, I dunno...hope it doesn't happen to me anytime soon (knocking on wood).

You know your landing gear is up and locked if it takes full power to taxi to the terminal.
