Ok folks here we go....

First off my explorer is a 4.0 SOHC, only gets about 13-15 MPG...changed the fuel filter and cleaned the injectors recently

I was wondering if purchasing an intake and exhaust would help my mileage or make it worse? From all of my experience adding any type of open exhaust just made for bad gas mileage.....what should I do?

I just installed a MAC Products intake last Wed. and my mileage seems to have gone up by about 1-2 mpg. I will be doing the exhaust next. There are many many threads here on this topic. Do a search and you'll most likely find your answer.

it will increase mileage... but be forewarned, it will sound a hell of a lot cooler, and you will drive like a goofball to hear it sound cooler, and thus, becuase of this, you may get worse mileage

Jim is right. If you drive conservatively and actually use the new power to keep your rpms down you will get better mileage. However, many drivers get worse mileage because they have too much fun with the new power and sound.

Case in point: I can get 7 mpg having the time of my life, or 22 mpg driving like a granny :D

Is there a distinguishable difference in sound between the flow master 40 and 50? How about performance

There was just a thread yesterday with a few members who've tried both the 50 and 40. I suggest you look for it.
