The first move upgrading performance on my explorer ive decided is gonna be an intake kit. Im looking at K&N , KKN, or MAC kits, aside from price and apperance is there any noticible difference in performance or engine noise. If all im getting is an extra horsepower or 2 id rather save myself $60 and get the KKN. The only differneces i can see are the addition of the chrome tube and heat shields. Im guessing if the rest of my setup is stock these wont make much of a differnce but eventaully im planning on putting in new headers the mac exhaust kit and a chip, would the tube/heatshields help that setup breathe better or am i not gonna notice a differnce?

btw i have a '97 5.0L V8

Get the cheapest open intake you can find, are all the same IMO

I scored a mac for my 99 xlt off ebay. I love it! Definite power gain, slight mpg gain, and it sounds awesome paired with the flowmaster 50 I juat had installed!
