Intake Manifold Bolt Hole Stripped Out

Bare with me if I don't make mush sense. Im not to experienced. But I was putting the upper intake manifold back in and one of the torx bolts will not thread back in. It just kept turning and will not tighten. So I assume the threads in the lower intake are stripped. If that is the case, how or what do I do? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Maybe the gasket slipped and its blocking the hole. Unless you wrenched it down until is started to slip, then you stripped it out. You would need to remove the manifold and probably sleeve the lower intake.

You might be able to use the Loctite thread repair kit or Helicoil

Thanks! I'll have to do some major research before I get started with that!

I'll check the placement of the gasket in the morning to make sure it's not out of place. When I was screwing it back it, it went smoothly. Just not locked in a thread.

This is not uncommon, so don't beat yourself up over it. You're threading into plastic, so it doesn't even need to be from over-tightening...just removing/replacing it several times can enlarge the threads. Solved my problem by running down to my local U Pull and grabbing a good lower manifold for something like $20.

After looking at how to use the Helicoil thing, I'd probably be better off just replacing the lower manifold to begin with.

Don't use a torque wrench just hand tight

Not sure of year but all may not be same length. Any chance some are longer and you have a shorty in the hole that a long one should be?

The secret to avoiding stripping the lower intake manifold is to drill out the upper intake manifold holes so that the screws just slid into the upper intake. Or you can do what I did, just install a supercharger and never have to worry about it again.
