I'm looking for a alumium tube to run from my airbox (and MAS) to my throttle body. I have seen some of these on some modifie import cars. Right now in the 92 explorer it's a ribbed black plastic tube. I can't find this mod at any stores or online for a 4.0L ? Any ideas!
Hey Scott, check out www.airaid.com. They don't advertise any for 4.0's, but I'd give 'em a call and ask. The make a high flow performance intake system for bigger engines, I installed one on my father-in-laws 2k F150 (5.4l) and it's awesome. It has a nice polished aluminum tube from the K&N filter to the throttle body. I'd call 'em, maybe they have one you could modify to fit.
I had the airaid in my 98 F-150 and I liked it a lot, if you do find something that works be sure to let everyone know, I'd love to put one in my Explorer!
Hey Scott, took me a few minutes to find this, but this came from a thread from a while ago. Check out these sites too. They specialize in imports, but they have 'em for us too. The first link lists the parts/applications. The second link descibes and give pics. Hope this helps! Let us know what ya do man!
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, Randy (the ford guy there) at contemporary motorsports informed me they really don't do alot for trucks in general. The part they offer for the explorer is only a filter(no tube). I asked if the co. good fab me a metal/cabon fiber tube and he said only for imports cars. He also suggested looking in 4x4 mags to get the part i was looking for. Airaid.com said the same thing. So I guess the explorer is left out again in the online specialty dept. I think I'm getting use to being disappointed looking for parts. I guess I'll keep looking...maybe a custom shop could make one for me.
At least in my truck, the intake tube from the MAS to the TB makes a perfect 90 degree turn. This actually makes it quite simple to custom fab something. After I get my headers installed (one project at a time), I'm going to see about getting some "generic" mandrel bent tube or some PVC to make a new intake tube. Being a simple L shape, it shouldn't be that bad. The hardest part will be making the flanges to fit perfectly.
Ive got the stuff already to make a 3" PVC tube... but im way to lazy to go put it on... I was checking it out... and i might have some clearance problems though..I hear a body lift would do the trick... but I might not... It might just squeeze in there.... have to relocate the battery though.
