I just recently changed my bulbs behind my gauges in my 97 X xlt. Majority of them went out. Then i started noticing that everything in my X use to light up and they dont now. My cruise control buttons on the steering wheel dont light up any more, my switches next to the radio (rear defrog, fog lamps) are out also. The leds still light when the button is pushed in but they dont show what button they are. I opened the buttons for the cruise control and found a really small blue bulb but i cant find it any where, and i cant put it back together either. My head lights switch use to light up also and that one is out too. Whats going on! I need to find out where i can get these bulbs and y they all went out.

sounds like me, my door lights have went out, a tag light, a map light, my cruise contol lights don't work sometimes and my light switch lights have never worked

you can get most of the replacements from an advance auto parts, any place that carries sylvania will have most OEM replacements. except for the map light. The sylvania manual calls for a 168, but the brightness of a 168 in that placement is half of what the stock bulb was.

go to a ford dealer either 1.) have them check and/or replace the bulbs [they will most likely have the brighter stock maplight] 2.)Find out from them where you can get the bulbs and attempt to do it yourself

Similar story here. Some of my guage cluster lights were out, so I replaced all of them. My cruise control switch lights are out and I tried to change them. But the little bulbs are nowhere to be found. The Ford dealer can't get them. They want you to replace the entire switch assembly to the tune of $150 a piece. No thanks. There are a couple of threads around here describing experiences with these bulbs. Let me see if I can find them...

About your best bet is to try to find some in a junkyard. And yes, getting the rubber covers back on the switches is a real PITA!!!

As far as the switches beside the radio...those commonly go out as well. I'm not sure what the fix is for those, but if you run a search, you may come up with something.

Did all of the bulbs just suddenly go out? If so, i would say that sounds like a fuse of some sort or sumthin....

Don't think so, they go out one at a time. No blown fuses. When you pull the bulbs out and look at them, they are just burnt out. New bulbs work fine.
