08 Mountaineer 2WD 4.0
Hello,

I recently purchased a 08 Mercury Mountaineer and upon starting the vehicle the interior lights remain lit for about a minute or so. Additionally the easy entry (seat moves out of the way) feature doesnt work properly either (it goes back fine, just jerks around while trying to return to the preset during starting.) The root of the problem seems to be the ignition switch. When held in manually everything works as it should, but returns to lighting everything up upon release. I can even push the key in while driving and it turns all the interior dome lights on until it times out a minute or so later. Does anyone have any ideas on what part is broken or how I might go about repairing this myself? It's annoying.

Thanks

Hi - did you ever find the cause of this? My 08 Mountaineer is doing the same thing now. I can get the seat to move and the lights to come on by wiggling the ignition key. Annoying when you are driving over bumps and the seat shifts and lights come on. I eliminated the seat movement by turning off the easy entry feature but the lights still come on. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Replace the ignition controle module in your steering column. It's the black box that attaches to the mechanical portion of the ignition, attached to it is a wire harness. Solved my issue. Around $55 if i recall. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I'll check into that.
