I have a 95 explorer v6 the cel doesnt come on at first, after driving for maybe 5 to 10 min the light all the sudden comes on with a loss of power and the acceleration sucks. After maybe 20 min of driving the light goes off but then comes back on after another 5 to 10 min. The truck is having a sig loss of power in my opinion. Anyone have any ideas?

the car sounds like it has an vaccum leak upon acceleration and an exhaust leak, after driving it for 20 minutes and i park it for like 30 min and try to start it up it sputter really bad

clogged cat or fautly o2 sensors maybe? i did however notice that the iac was different than the ones i saw on explorers, the black cap is in the bottom instead of the side and it used to have a red hose going to the black cap it but i removed that

Took it to advance autoparts yesterday to get the cel scanned and there was an error on the scan tool connection failed, so i m going to check some fuses and hopefully one is blown and i get it scanned, figured that would be a good way to start.

Check the fuse for the 12v power outlet or cigarette lighter as the OBD2 data link connector is often on the same circuit.

Could also be the MAF on it's way out. In any event, we're just throwing darts until you get the scanner to work.

Your '95 has OBDI, which most shops will not scan, it requires a test light and to count flashes.

Suspect the DPFE or EGR valve. If the DPFE (which signals how the EGR is working) is bad, it will affect performance slightly, causing some surging at highway speed. If it;s the EGR valve, it might have more impact.

I don't have an OBDI howto handy, but there's a link on the board somewhere.

I just lost mt '95 XLT and now have an '00 XLT, so I can finally get a scanner and know things instead of the flaky flash counting thing... But it is doable, just a pain.

DPFEs are $40-$50,and no problem to replace. You might also try cleaning out the tubes and hoses.

Thank you for the ideas. I will try and replace those parts. I was thinking about replacing them all. I cleaned the maf but didn't make much of a difference. I posted another thread about my iac it doesn't look like any other one I have seen on explorers. But the connector does fit. I was thinking maybe the tps?

I m going to try and get the code before i throw parts at it, one part is cheap several parts add up hahahah I have a test lamp at home, u know how i can use that to pull the code out?

Well today i just replaced the DPFE and the egr vaccum solenoid and drove the car about 50 miles and the check engine light never came back on, so I am guessing it was prob the DPFE that went bad, cuz i read that the egr vaccum solenoid doesnt fail too often.

Advance Auto has the adapters to test OBDI. I took my 89 5.0 GT in there and they pulled codes off of it. They dont like doing tht cause that means more work for them but they can do it and have the equipment to do it.

They prob were just being lazy or didnt know my car was obd1 **** i didnt know til just now hahaha
