- 2005 Ford Explorer EB V8
I have a 2005 Explorer Eddie Bauer V8. Back in the summer I stopped to fuel up and when I went to leave she wouldn't crank. I had all accessories and I know the fuel pump was engaging but not as much as even a click. A gentleman tried to jump me off and it was a no go. We finally noticed the connections we're not good. Cleaned them up, hooked them back up and she started.
Sadly, that wasn't the only time. Just randomly for no reason she won't start. Positive connection was replaced since it was almost shot. Negative was replaced at the same time.
To this day, just randomly I'll have this issue. I have to get out and jiggle the positive cable/connection then try to start sometimes many many times taking me a long time to get it started. I never know when this will happen and she's left me stranded in the freezing cold, rain, heat etc. I've considered replacing the positive cable but recently while dealing with a window issue I'm thinking this may not be an issue in the cable.
I've looked at the connection to the power distribution box and it's great. The connections to the battery poles are good but the smaller cable going to the power distribution box sometimes won't stay in the connector at the pole very well. But even if that's fixed she won't start.
This is as far as I've explored so far thinking I could get advice to a certain direction instead of wildly guessing and further frustrating myself. Again I have all accessories she just won't turn over at all and no clicks.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Also want to mention that I have had a back injury and there are limitations as to what I can do. I'm curious as to how difficult it would be to replace the positive cable. I've looked for a diagram online to get a feel for where it may end up but haven't found one. A diagram would be wonderful!
