iPhone 5 and BT Audio not staying connected to Sync-Fixed

Anyone else having this problem or is it just me?

My trucks are a ’10 Mounty and ’10 ST, and I just got a new iPhone5 to replace my iPhone4s.

I’m able to Setup BT with the iPhone5. After I pair it everything works, but it will not stay connected to BT Audio. Once you turn off the car Aux reverts to line in. If i try and change it on the radio, it says no BT found. If i cycle BT on/off on the phone, i can get it to work but that’s getting to be a pain. In another test I got in the car turn the radio on and checked the iPhone5, which listed sync as ‘Not Connected’. If I force the phone to connect sometimes it will, about half the time it won’t. The phone will just spin trying to connect but it will give up, sync will say ‘No BT found’. Turning BT on the iPhone5 on and off at this point it will usually connect but just the one time until the truck is turned off.

I did call Apple Care, they recommended updating the radio. A quick search of the Web suggests many others are having the same problem. iPhone5 implements BT4.0 while the iPhone4s was only 2.0 or 2.1.

The iPhone4s never had a problem with these two trucks. I was able to Sync without any problems. If i turned on BT Audio it would stay on. If i shut the car off and came back later it still worked. A couple of times it started playing when i didn't want it to. Recently i upgraded the 4s to iOS 6.0 without any problems and Sync seemed to work. I'm not 100% as a couple of days later i got the iPhone5, i'm not sure if i even used BT Audio then. My son still has it so i'll test with that later.

I’ve downloaded the latest firmware off ‘syncmyride’ so I’ll see how that goes. At this point if I have to pay the dealer 90$ to fix this times two trucks, I’m might as well go back to the iPhone4s. I've also read about changing the default input, I'll try it but i don't think that's going to work as the Radio BT doesn't see iPhone5 BT. It almost like the phone BT goes to sleep and the radio can't wake it up if that makes any sense.

Well that upgrade went off like a lead balloon,
Followed the instructions, got a 32GB flash drive with 8GB free.
Inserted drilled down to the load application and
Intializing. . . . . . .Sync Line In
repeat
Intializing. . . . . . .Sync Line In
Repeated again, but this time it came back 'Unsupported' What's unsupported? The 32GB drive? Well i don't have an exact 2GB. I'll give it a try with a 512mb which is what i have handy. If that fails i'll have to find a 2gb somewhere.

Oh the sync my ride website, looks cool, but after downloading the update i can't download it a second time. Only option is to report 'Successful' update, no failure. I'll try a work around and just copy the small files over to another USB Flash.

Looks like the i5 maybe going back.

I have the iPhone 4 and a 2008 explorer with Sync (no NAV). It works just fine but I have to select BT Audio every time, the radio always defalts to Line in. It is completely stupid and unnecssary since every other car I have owned or rented with BT worked great all the time.

Your problem is a bit different than mine but I did not know I had to constantly go into the Menu and Select SRC and then BT audio even after a succesful pairing.

Update, the 512mb flash drive did work. All i did was copy the files over to an empty flash drive. Just be sure to keep the directory structure.

But it didn't change the behavior. I'm leaning more on the iPhone5 as being the problem. I've also noticed the phone side of things don't work either until i force a connection. Its somewhat of a pain but if i go to the iPhone Bluetooth menu first and hit connect it usually will. After connected I can change it to BT Audio and it works fine. I've yet to test this but this might be a safety concern if you get a call and your phone isn't connected. Defeats the purpose of handsfree. . .The behavior seems the same when testing my headsets, if connected i go out of range then return it doesn't automatically reconnect, if its off and i turn it on it works like its suppose to.

With the iPhone4, Sync would automatically pickup the phone, no action necessary. I still want to verify the iPhone4s with iOS6, and test out the phone call.

Back to Apple Care. . .i'm inclined to work around this, after running speed test for the last few days, LTE - getting 10-20Mbps

Searching the web one thing keep coming up and that was start from scratch.
I bought the Mounty used there might have been other BT devices added from before i don't know. I added a i4s, i3gs and a touch. Then after several months I added the 5 which synced, i even manually set it to primary. But the i5 never worked like the 4s and i think i know why.

First on the radio go to the option of deleting all BT devices.
Second on the phone 'forget' Sync.

Now when you re-pair the phone like before i got extra options, one was set primary and the other was 911 Assist. I turned both on. After this it seems to work.

I now remember when i added the 4s i also turned primary and 911 on. With the 5 somehow (user error?) it was never added correctly. Resetting everything and starting from the beginning seemed to work. I turn the car off and when i return BT audio started streaming without any intervention.

Hopefully this will help someone else.
