i want to put a locker in my front diff and was thinking about the detroit ez locker it is not alot of money it is only $242 (that is the cheapest i found) tel me what you guys think thanks
Rob "Gofast" Robertson put one in his front diffy and did just fine, thank you, at Moab. He even made it up Potato Salad Hill, and that's just with the locker in front. He's still limited slip in the rear.
The EZ Locker is one of the type known as "lunchbox lockers" since you can still use your original carrier with them. As a result they are not considered as strong a setup as the more expensive complete differential lockers.
For most applications, unless you go to really big tires or have a very heavy foot when you offroad, it should do the job for you.
Possibly you can get several replies to this thread from those who have had them installed for extended periods that can give you a firsthand account of their reliability.
J91; I have the E/Z in the front of my 93'. I have wheeled with it for two years (not extreme-no rocks in Fl.) now with no problems. You'll diffenitly need a pwr strng fluid cooler--it gets hot when the front is locked up.
