Hello,
Wondering whether to purchase a larger free flowing
MAS from Vanir or another company to get more benefit from
the increased air flow of the KKM? Is it a cost effective
addition?

The engine is still stock other than new wires and Bosch
Platinum +4 plugs. Also trying to decide whether to utilize
a Gibson or Borla cat-back system and install a free flow
catalytic converter.

A Hypertech chip may be an option later but only if there
is a way to use one without resorting to premium. Threads
concerning these lead one to believe otherwise.

Suggestions or comments welcomed.

Thanks, Bob

From what I've heard and experienced with my truck, a larger MAS is not needed until you add a considerable amount of other mods. I've heard some numbers tossed about, but many say the stock MAS is capable of flowing enough air to about 300hp. The TB is more restrictive than the MAS, and I would only replace that after the filter, chip, and catback.

As for the cats, I know 95+ cats are already very free flowing, and replacing them can reduce torque (even putting on headers reduced my low end torque) by eliminating needed backpressure. Remember, some backpressure is good. As for catback, the solution I went with was to have a muffler shop "do their thing" and put in the muffler and pipe they thought was best for the job. It came in under $200 and sounds and performs great.

As for gas and the chip: I had to use 89 anyway after getting the catback and filter. The mileage gains of the chip more than offset the price of going from 89 to 93.

I dunno about that 300hp. I would be surprised if it flowed that much. 300hp is a long ways away.

Not sure about the MAS replacement, but I just finished a KKM install and Gibson Cat-back. Only been for a couple of days but I can really feel the difference in the throttle response and sounds real nice. I'd say go for the Gibson. Borla is a quality product but you pay a quality price.
