Have 77K miles on the truck I just got. Would it be advisable to do a tranny flush on it with a new filter? It seems to work ok except a little clunk when it shifts into 1st when coming to a stop.

Thanks

Jason,

Take a look at the post just before your entitled:

"IAC or transmission or ??????"

I just got back from a mechanic who STRONGLY recommends a trannie and cooling system flush at least every two years. From what he says, it's weak parts that Ford, GM and most American car makers choose to use in order to lower their mfg. costs. If in doubt, flush it. I'm looking at a $2K tranie job that might have been avoided (or at least delayed) had I known about this.

Yes, I recommend a full flush and new filter on your truck. Do it every 2 years, keep it cool, and this can really help your A4LD transmission.

Also, for the clunk you get when coming to a stop, I suspect that is not your transmission, but rather the SLIP YOKE on the driveshaft. All it needs is a little lube on it; it only takes about 30 minutes if you've never done it before, and it's easy to do. Do a search here for "slip yoke" and you'll find all about it. One thing about it, if you lube the slip yoke and you're still getting the clunk, you will know it was not your slip yoke...
