This isn't necessarily those on Explorers, but any Altezza. I think the red tailight looks pretty weak when it's "on". Most of them seem to have a slight pinkish tinge, and the light looks a lot more dim when compared to regular taillights. Anyone agree? Why is that?

These are on aftermarket lights, not stock like you see on the new Altima or the Lexus RX300.

I agree, many clear taillights give off poor light. This not only makes them ugly IMO, but illegal. There's been many a time when I can't see someone's brakelights because they have crappy lenses.

I personally hate the Altezza's.. I think the stock tail lights look 100x better... I dunno, I tried them for a day and took 'em off, thats something Civics do. Not for American Iron.. just like those ghetto tails and double stack wings on Mustangs...

Most of the altezzas don't give off a bright light because they basically just put a small, reflective red "cap" over the bulb hole in order to make it legal. Because of that, when the bulb is on, all the light is trapped in the red reflector cap (TIR, Total Internal Reflection for you physics guys), and cannot reflect off anything else to make it brighter.

i agree

I thought about adding Altezzas about a year ago or so, but I saw so many of them - plus those that I saw had a sickly pink-red light - so I decided not to.

I'm now considering LED taillights from Ledtronics. The one thing that I don't know about is how they light up "less brightly" for parking lights - I'll send them an e-mail about that & post the reply.

I'm using TYC's Gunmetal black taillights and I think they look real good against my dark red explorer. If they were clear, they would look like crap, but because they're black, they look nice like a Trailblazer and give it an individual look. Easy to find in parking lots.
