Only in Manual mode.

I would be happy if the new dash would show the gear positions in a larger format. And not in red. Some of the displays give little consideration to the actual circumstances while driving. Age is a factor as well as bright sunlight.

Has anyone tried connecting a Scangauge 2 to the new Explorer?

On other truck forms its been stated that you can use the Xgauge capability to display the current gear and many other functions that aren't part of the Ford display.

If I recall correctly, you can tap the paddles when not in manual and the current gear will display.

You are correct but only lasts for a few seconds and changes back to "D".
