'92 Navajo
In the past 3 weeks I hvae changed my O2 Sensor and cleaned my MAF. My engine is running alot smoother but yesterday on the way back from the airport my 92 Navajo stalled about 20 times (30 min drive usually). It happened at high speeds, low speeds, at stop lights. Sometimes it would sputter for a bit then die, sometimes just die. It would always start right back up (lucky to have a new battery). I could hardly drive one block at the end of the trip where I parked it at my friends house. About two hours later I drove it home 6 blocks with none of these problems occuring. I am planning on replacing my fuel filter tonight but am wondering if anyone else things that could be the problem or has any other suggestions. Thanks in advance for the help. BTW - No check engine light came on during this ordeal.

17 views and no one on this board has one opinion. wow, I'm in shock. Usually you guys (and gals) jump all over everything on the board. Well anyway heres an update for anyone with similar symptoms.......
Replaced the fuel filter last night. I thought it was going to be much more frustrating than it was, with those little plastic tools and my truck growing up in michigan (corrosion). But it was a fairly simple procedure (total work time 45 minutes), I couldn't figure out how to depressurize the gas system but only a little gas came out of the lines. Today it was running fine, but I still want to take it for a nice hour long test drive to make sure the problem of stalling doesn't occur again after the car get heated up. I haven't felt any hesitation or power drag at all. I'll update again in a few days to see if it is still running like a beaut!!!!! Thanks for all the advice I read on the boards!!

Damn it!!!! Had the problem again. It seems to happens when I have less than a 1/4 tank of gas!!! When I fill it up, it goes away. What can this be? Fuel pressure regulator is what I will be replacing next. Does anybody have any suggestions or comments. Come on people, I need help. I would like to try to join the CCR2001 for one day at least, and can not do that if this proplem persist (or cost too much). I am crossing my fingers that it is not the cat. converter. how much does something like that cost? Some body come up with something so it doesn't feel like i'm taliking to my self!!?? please....

you said it only does it when you have less then 1/4 tank of gas. its possible your gas guage is off and you have alot less gas then it says. thats my guess.

it is posible that there is a foreign object floating in your gas tank. i've seen it happen in motorcycles, but thankfully, never on anything with 4 wheels. do you have a little brother or any other enemies?

its also posible that it is an electrical problem with one of the fuel pumps, make sure any electrical connections are CLEAN and secure.

hey nomad...sounds like your fuel pump is going bad. i'm having similar problems with my 96 explorer. last month the truck just died while driving. 30 minutes later, it started right back up and ran fine until 2 nites ago. no check engine lights, no computer codes. i replaced the fuel filter yesterday, truck started right up, drove it 15 miles to a friends house, on the way home it died again.
i'm thinking it's the fuel pump getting too hot and shutting down.
on yours i'm almost positive that it's the fuel pump. i have a mustang that i race and i had the exact same problem in it last year...it was fine until the fuel started getting low, then it would die. turns out as long as there was atleast a 1/2 full tank the fuel pump would be completely submerged and not get hot, but as soon as the pump was not submerged in gas it would heat up and shut down. once it cooled down, it would start right back up.
hope this helps you, if anybody has any ideas on mine i would appreciate the help. the towing company told me last nite they have been towing alot of explorers, expeditions, navigators lately with similar problems. he said it was the air/fuel mixture valve...never heard of that valve on a fuel injected car and can't seem to find anyone else who's heard of it.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. Sounds like I should be looking at the fuel pump instead of the FPR next. Anybody know how much a new fuel pump is? If I remember correctly its a nice chunk of change. If thats the case I guess I'll just keep it filled up for now. (Gotta get that lift and new tires)

fuel pump is $169.95 at pep boys, just bought one last nite

Oh, thats not too bad. How about installation, is that very hard. Let me know how yours go, if you would. Time, tools, procedure....
