2000 explorer awd 5.0
Hello everyone, former member back again only with more mile and repairs to be done on my 2000 explorer xlt awd 5.0 liter 302 .My dilemma is fix it or sell it.I'll explain. While at the stealer getting a routine oil change I inquired and asked them to look over the whole truck as she has about 98,000 on her and the engine runs tip top but these trucks are notorious for expensive repairs and I have been having front end problems so I asked them to give me the lowdown on the repairs.Being a commercial truck driver I knew if he was gonna lie to me I'd know if he was gonna try to try to replace every nut and bolt on the truck but I admit she needs repairs but not having a lift i figured I would have the tech give the truck a good once look over. His conclusions are as follows;new tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints, shocks, torque arm bushings,tune-up,torque converter because the tranny is chattering which is true,an alignment, tire rotation coolant flush, leaf springs,u-bolts,shocks.Total parts and labor $4500.My mouth hit the garage floor, but admittedly the truck really needs the work as i did a visual front to back check while the truck was on the lift. The previous owner took good care of the truck so the interior and body is in good condition but driving the truck sucks because it pulls hard to the right ,the right front tire is cupped soo bad that means tires too.I don't drive unsafe to save a buck.
I never really drove the truck as my wife always did drive locally and near by to work but she never gave me a clue to how bad it was.Goes to show that if it has t... or tires sooner or later it'll give ya trouble.I am out of work but she decides to throw keys at me and go buy herself a brand new fusion's daddy as a co signer without even telling me and leaves me stuck with the explorer.I don't know how anyone can afford a new ford suv,pick/up new nevermind a used anymore.I really don't want to trade or sell. And to add insult to injury, yesterday I got a $50 ticket for an out dated inspection sticker becuase she blew it off but got I it dismissed because i paid off a inspection station guy who was cool about it but said you gotta do something. How much is realistic here .I ain't paying $ 4500 to the stealer but I gotta do something and what pisses me off the most my wife won't even let me near or drive her new 2012 fusion WTF man.I guess I have to go around getting different estimates to fix and have the repairs done one at a time.I don't know how I am gonna do it unless I hit the lottery and buy a Brand new F-250/ F-350 super duty lariat big motor, leather ,crewcab or even better the new raptor I see Jesse James cruising around in. If I was working there wouldn't be problem but my back is junk.If anyone has a closer estimate as to get this work done I would appreciate an honest opinion on parts /labor repairs. Thanks for letting me bend your ears !

Honestly take it somewhere else. I know you said you have a bad back but plugs on the 5.0 are cake all you do is remove the splash guard and they are all right there. Why do you need new leaf springs? Did they mean the lead spring shackles? And u-bolts did you mean u-joints? Unless the truck shakes because of them or there is a lot of movement they shouldn't need replaced. And only 98,000!? That's nothin!! Mine has 152000 and many have 200,000+ they are great engine and transmissions.

My 2000 5.0 had 185,000 0n it when I sold it and it ran like a top.I had to do a rear u joint, rear brakes and a front driveshaft. I didn't have $4000 in the truck.

If it is that bad sell it and go down south to get a clean one,I think you are being hosed by the dealer.:D

There are bunches of them here for $3000 in decent shape.
