I have a CAI it's not an expensive one so it doesn't have the heat shield and I'm scared that I'm going to hydro lock my truck offroad should I just put the stock one back in or make a heat shield with a bottom to keep water away

I know my stock intake box has often been absolutely covered in mud. I'd hate to see what that would mean if it was an exposed filter.

There's no 100% way of keeping water/ mud out but the best thing you can is to modify a snorkel to work for your ST. Their are plenty of threads and build threads on here, rangerstation, rangerforum, myst and other Ranger based Vehicle forums.

I myself will be building/ modifying a snorkel for mine since I came extremely closed to hydrolocking my motor a couple weeks ago on a trail run.

The best thing for what you have now is to sell the "CAI" because there's no barrier between the water and the filter, even with a heat sheild. Put the stock box back in with the silencer and a cleanable/ reusable air filter like a K&N or like so that when you get mud and or moisture on it you can clean and reuse it.

thats the link to the snorkel most copy. the way i would change it up is get a pvc bend blanket and make a bend that matches the A pillar. and use a toliet flange to adapt the factory box through the fender wall and to the pvc pipe that is being routed throught the fender.
