Hello everyone! We have a 2010 Explorer, 196k. Luckily, no startup rattle yet. I have an EGR code, but it seems like a minor issue. It is a P0401. Also have a P0054 and P0060.

My biggest issue may cause us to scrap it. It just started stalling randomly when hot. It happens coming off hwy speed to a stop, acting like a manual still in gear. First it bumps hard like you got hit in the rear end, then surges a bit and the RPMS get unsteady then stalls. Shocked me! Then it started and stalled again. On the second time, I noticed it shut all electrical off for a second. 2nd restart was fine and drove fine. I started putting it in neutral when coming to a stop.

Can we confirm this is engine or transmission related? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

The P0401 could indicate a sticking or stuck EGR valve, the valves are cheap enough in the aftermarket might worth it to buy one and give it a try.

Check the wiring harness for insulation splitting at the egr, throttle body or maf. Those are the common areas.

Hey guys,
I've swapped the EGR with a motorcraft one a few months back. But, I don't think that is the issue. After digging around today, the tube going from the intake to the EVAP purge solenoid is porous. I think this is my vacuum leak I couldn't find. I need to source a new one. I'm hoping this is what caused it to stall. It's on the side before the valve, so it is a vacuum leak all the time. Let me know if this sounds reasonable, because I'm just spit balling.

I have another thread on here where I really dug in to the harness. I even pulled from from a donor at the junkyard. But, my harness overall seemed pretty good. I re-wrapped 80% of it anyways. This morning I pulled the Fusebox and separated it, based on someone else saying this happened to them, and that was their issue. Also, because it lost all power when it stalled which was really odd to me (At night on a highway, kinda freaked me out) Underneath the fusebox looked OK. I did see a few wires stuck together from heat, which I pulled apart. It got hot enough at one point to melt out the splice adhesive, and gravity dropped it all over the other wires, so that was a bit of a mess. I also swapped some relays to see if that was an issue.

One other thing I can't get over is the big bump like I got rear ended before it happened. What the heck would cause that? I thought it may have been a slip bump from the driveshaft, but I have a 1 pc driveshaft?

Waiting to source the EVAP tube before I drive it again. Let me know if anything else comes to mind.

The think I
