I have 2 12's, when the volume is low you usually can't hear any movement of the subs at all, but now i get a really low rasspy sound coming out of the left sub, what could this be? The subs shouldn't be moving at all, when they are at full volume it doesn't produce this sound at all, I'm worried that I damaged something in my sub! Anyone have this experience? And its only one sub that does this!

Try switching your Subs around. If you get the same noise from the good Sub, then it might be a problem with the amp.

Well I tried switching the subs and it still made the same noise, from the same sub. So I'm not sure what it is, it doesn't sound like a blown sub though... It sounds like there is just a much louder and higher pitch bass coming from it....Damn did something melt in my freakin subs? It has been in the 100's here lately and my car has been in the hot garage....Now I'm kind of worried that I'm gonna have to replace it....It is under warrenty for anything except being blown so I'm prayin that its not....Ideas?!?!

I'd say that it's probably blown, sorry. What kind of sub is it and what amp are you using to power them? How are they wired? Give us some more info.

Its a rockford fosgate He, its 200 watts rms and 400 watts peak, I'm running a koiler amp 300x2 channels. It just doesn't sound blown to me for some reason, its really weird. It's like an echo in the sub or its just producing a different kind of bass....

If you switched Subs and hooked up the good one and still got that same noise, than it is not your Sub!! Could be other problems like the amp, wiring, HU, etc.

but when i switched the subs the same sub had the same prob, so I'm pretty sure its not the amp. All the connection seem to be ok and the ground is looking good, I took it to the shop today to get it replaced and they told me to come back friday morning so they can test it on some machine to see if its really blown. They said that if I blew the speaker than they won't replace it, but if the voice coils fried or somethin else happened than they might, I think im gettin screwed here.....

ic. Guess you will have to wait for the test results...hopefully you can get a new free Sub.

what exactly does a blown sub sound like? Any ways to distinguish between certain problems with a sub just by listening?

Sorry no, I have never blown a Sub. Not too sure what it would sound like.

And the answer is.........NO!! The sub is not blown, apparantly my box which was "professionaly sealed" is leakin air, and a lot of it! Around the lower right portion of the front of the sub there is a grip of air coming out, so I'm takin this as a sign to just re-seal the whole box. I just bought some liquid silicone from Home Depot, hopefully this will fix my prob!

Are your subs sharing the same air? Or are they in seperate enclosures within the box? Just wondering cause you said you switched the wires or something, and it did it on the same speaker. They sound better if each speaker has it's own air. IMO.

I'm done rambling about nothing.

But if there is a flow of air coming out of the box plugging it or putting silicone or whatever, will fix your problem.

They both have their own air flow, there is a wood piece sepearting the subs in the box. And they are both leaking air so I'm just gonna do both sides.

You need to do more than just seal it with silicon/caulk. If I were you I would pre-drill a couple new holes around that area and sink some wood screws in as well and then caulk/seal it. Oh yeah...glad to hear that it was not your Sub. Big relief huh?
