Ok, so here it is... this had the potential to go very bad for me... Yesterday I pull into a gas station, and in front of me a cop car is pulling up towards the pumps to fuel up at the same time. I slowed/stopped the X to look for an empty spot to fuel, but I let my foot off the brake peddle to let it coast very slowly as I was looking for that spot, not paying attention to what was happening in front of me or to my instrument cluster.

Suddenly I've heard the throttle roar as the truck got a sudden jump of RPM, and it accelerated on it's own, heading straight for the cop car! I slammed on the brake, and the truck stopped about a meter from the Crown Vic with the red/blue lightbar, and the RPMs dropped to normal idle once again on it's own. Luckily the cop wasn't looking... I might've had some explaining to do had I not reacted in time... The bad part is that I've got illegal tints, blue headlights and a big old-school pushbar on the front of it... it freakin looked like I was taunting them on purpose, lol

Anyway, this isn't the first time it did that, but it was never this bad before. I find that it did something similar a few times recently after I rustproofed the truck (had chemical oil sprayed underneath/in the body panels) and thought that maybe the throttle cable was temporarily slippery or something due to the oil. What would be responsible for idling RPMs to jump up like that while the truck is in gear? Seems like a safety concern to me... Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
