Got a 91 Eddie Bauer with 120k. 4wd. When I put it in reverse, it takes a few seconds to actually engage into reverse and when it does, you get a slight jerk. Is this tellin me get a new tranny, or is there just something that needs adusted?

120k, sounds like it just might be that time. My tranny blew at 106k. No warnings, no symptons. It was shifting fine, no weirds sounds, then boom, it blew up on me while I was on the highway.

Take it in to get checked.

It could be a ton of things from low pressure, to valve body problems to the reverse servo being bad. Take it to a trans shop see if they can diagnose it. My be a bit cheaper now to catch it before something fails and causes major damage. Just because the rev is bad may not mean that the trans needs rebuilt. talk to a good shop.

Good luck.

I hate to scare you, but I'd have to agree with Joe. 120K sounds like tranny rebuild time to me. Mine went at 125 or so. It was shifting smooth, went into gear right away, absolutely no warning. Then I was cruising down the highway, looked in the rearview mirror and saw a cloud of smoke, had it checked out right away and that was all she wrote.
You might luck out and maybe it's something minor but I don't think I'd bet on it :-)

My dad's a mechanic of like 25 years and what he told me, all he did was drive it, was that it was somethin major or somethin little. If it's someting major I'm just gonna trade it in to get rid of it. My trans still shifts good, just a little slow droppin in reverse. Anybody had this same probelm too?
