I can't get the PCV valve to come free of the lower hose (and I've got the bandaged finger to prove it). I think that if I pull the upper intake I might be able to get the entire lower hose off the engine and then work at it on the bench (or at least get a better angle on it with it in the engine).

From what I've read it looks pretty easy and I won't have to buy and gasket or O-rings to put it back on when I'm done.

Is it really that easy or am I missing something?

Thanks

Steve

Its actually not that difficult to do. Just some bolts and disconnects. But as long as you have it off I definitely would replace the gaskets. They tend to age and shrink over time and RA has Felpro sets pretty cheap. Just make sure you don't drop anything into the intake when you have it off (stuff some rags into the intake) and don't over torque the bolts when replacing them. Sorry but I don't know what the torque requirement is.

Ok that makes sense. I've got a question on the gaskets though. Each set that I look at has a pair of 3 connected ring gaskets and 6 additional non-connected gaskets. I've see that the connected 3 ring gaskets go on top of the lower intake manifold. Where do the 6 loose (non-connected) ring go? on the bottom of the top intake?

Thanks

Thanks, That is easy. I'm really surprised how easy it is to remove the lower. I was expecting that to be harder than the upper.

I know when I bought the XLT new in 97 that the SOHC had a issue with the intake manifold gaskets leaking and I got mine replaced for free. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to pull both intakes and replace the gaskets (they are cheap, and I now have figured out that the 6 loose ones go on the bottom of the lower intake). That should make getting to the PCV much easier.

Thanks Again

Pulled the upper intake and that gave me all the access that I needed to get to the PCV valve. Made it real easy to replace.
