I currently have a 1996 XLT 5.0 AWD w/136 k on the clock. I really enjoy it and it tows pretty well (3500lb boat). I have the opportunity to pick up a 2000 EB with a 5.0 with a lot less miles. Difference is that this one is 2WD. I dont necessarily need the AWD capabilities, but i wanted some feedback to see if there are any differences in the two drivetrains, is one more depandable than the other, is there a gas savings....? I dont even know if I'll miss the AWD cause its always "on". Thanks for any input.

I'm assuming you get at least some snow in NC, but I could be wrong. The AWD is absolutely great for snow and wet roads. Also if you're using it on launches the AWD will help if they are slick ones. There is a MPG gain from the AWD to 2WD, but how much I don't really know.

x2 - I'd go for it. Its one less thing you have to worry about going wrong :D

No. I have a 98 Mountie. Runs great. Have had it for over 2 years. Live in Mississippi. Background: Just started to learn about autos 4 years ago for middle age stay at home hobby. Have 2 1989 Town Cars that are a joy to work on. Inexpensive parts. What worries me about the AWD is what I have read on this forum. So much suspension and drive train "noises". Parts are very expensive. Difficult to work on. In short, the AWD in a small truck has way too much engine, way too much suspension, and way too complicated. Ball joints, CVs, transfer case etc. The most problem posts involved something under the truck. It rides like a chuck wagon. You will feel the slightest bump. Gas mileage is horrible. This Mountie is just my grocery getter. Should last a very long time. Paid for. No off roading. Don't want anything to break.

You mention towing a 3500lb boat, are you launching on a ramp from a trailer? The AWD might be helpful in those situations, though probably not mandatory.
