whats going on people....would anyone know if there is a better transmission than the one that is in my 4.0? i always wanted to supercharge the truck but i have a fear that the tranny would go with extra power...they're made like crap as it is and barely last with the stock power...also the rear diff is another concern...any thoughts would be appreciated..thanks

Awdrocks is supercharged with a V8 running the stock tranny and rear I believe and mounty03 is turbo'ed doing the same. I think a 4.0 or even a 4.6 with enough boost would go before the tranny did. Are you 4x4 or 2wd? I think Rocket switched out to a 4R70W? because he is pushing 600HP on his supercharged 4.6.

Edit-Now I am thinking he has a 4R100 that's used in the superduty's and lightnings. I will do some reseach in a short bit.

I think the transmissions are stronger than we sometimes give them credit for.

When in good condition without valve body issues, they should hold quite a bit of power. jah81592 put quite a few miles on his 5r55e in stock form with his turbo'd 4.0. And I know he had plenty of power going through it.

He upgraded to the 5r55s but from what he's said it was a nightmare to control it. I believe that is the strongest transmission out of the series. If you are interested in it, I would talk to him.

But really the stock transmission should be fine as long as you take good care of it and make sure the valve body issues are sorted out. Because when it comes down to it, this is what causes all the problems in these. There are plenty of people out there making some real power through the 5r55e, and it holds it. Hopefully we can get some of those experts in here to elaborate on it all.

The only thing I know is my truck is making turbo power and the 5R55e is holding up. A few weeks back I thought maybe I blew it but it turned out being a worn rear end. The 8.8 31 spline rear axle is considered a strong link on my combo and it was the thing that went - hmm. You never know.

With a good tune to control the tranny the 5R55W will hold up to what you are looking at throwing at it. Believe me, my truck has put down 450 ft.lb torque as low as 2200rpm and the S is living. This torque # is held to around 4700 rpm where it starts falling off. Nice flat torque range. I believe you will be fine.
