Got a buddy who has the awd version of the 91 Eddie Bauer. He was wondering if there is a brown wire mod to set the truck into 2wd all the time then manually switch to 4wd?
Thanks

There is no awd version in first gens. So unless somebody swapped in a awd t-case (why is beyond me), he doesn't have awd. It should just be regular 4x4 with push buttons to engage it, or a stick on the floor if it's manual.

got push buttons for 4x4high and low~ he said it was AWD tho~ maybe he was wrong

Alot of people think AWD and 4x4 are the same thing. So you have a 4x4 then. No BWM needed.

It's just regular 4x4. Many confuse awd and four wheel drive, thinking they mean the same thing.

I also met a blazer owner once who had never heard of awd. He didn't know you get a car that you couldn't turn the 4x4 off on. If you'd ask him he'd say he knows what he's talking about, too.

Edit: Jman was faster apparently.

Also with the true 4x4 (first Gen X) you cannot drive in 4x4 on pavement or hardpack. The tires need to slip.. If they don't you will get all kinds of binding and possibly breakage..

I've seen people who don't know what they have turn on the 4x4 on 1st gens just because the road is wet (raining).. Thats not enough to let the tires slip and there can/will still be breakage.

There are some exceptions to this rule but unless the hubs/transfer case etc have been modified this rule applies to all 1st Gen X's.

Thanks, ill let him know! I know my 00 sport is auto 4wd, and thought his first gen might be the same way. Thanks guys

Yea when the lights are on your in 4wheel drive and when there off your in two wheel drive. There is no 2hi switch like in the chevy's
