I'm passing information that my wife and neighbor are telling me about my 2002 exploder. They told me that a valve in the transmission failed, and that is will only shift between fist and second gear. It won't shift into 3rd. If my neighbor jiggles the shifter and plays with it just right, it will shift into 3rd.
A shop quoted my wife at $700 to repair it.
I use the exploder for towing my boat, and I think that I probably ought to just get a new transmission. Is there such thing as a heavy duty 5R55E that can withstand towing abuse? Are there certain mustang or F-150 aftermarket parts that are compatible? Would an F-150 auto trans bolt up to my 4.0L V6?
I've swapped out many transmissions in my day, but I've never dug in and rebuilt one, so I'm not feeling real confident about making this one my first.
