Anyone know of a smaller fuel filter for the ranger and explorers? The stock one is to big in diameter and is getting in the way of my suspension links. If I can just swap one in that is smaller it will be perfect. Even if I have to change them more often I am up for that. The truck only sees a few hundred miles a year anyway.

That is the factory one that rock auto lists. seems like they list it for just about every ford out there.

they list this for a dodge intrepid. The ends look similar if memory is correct.....

Rockauto lists the aerostar one to be the same as the ranger one. The ranger one is 3" in diameter. I need something in the 2-maybe 2.5" diameter.

Wally world is 15-20 miles away from me. K mart is 2 blocks but they suck. Next time I am close to wally world I will be going through there fuel filter section to see what I can come up with.

I can take those numbers check with my friend at the Napa store, if he has them both in stock, I can check for you- I won't be able to do that unit Wed though.

That reminds me, have you checked the NAPA web site?- the usually have pretty detailed product specs.

1999 Ford Escort 2.26" in diameter 5/16" inlet and outlets.

I think this one will wok perfect for what I need. :D I hope.

Anyone see a reason why going to a smaller filter like this would not work? I am not building a race car and if I keep it changed regularly so there isn't much build up it hopefully will flow well enough... I am running a stock 4.0 with 190k+ miles.

I don't see why a smaller one wont work- it's just less surface area, but no more fuel/miles than that thing will see, I don't know what I'd hurt. They use those big filters to allow for longer intervals between changes for lower maintenance costs for people who get everything done at a shop.

Picked up the escort filter. It looks like it might work off to the garage to give it a test fit.

Escort filter will fit. It is the perfect size for what I need. Only down side is I will have to remove part of the suspension when I have to change it out.
