Is this a good towing combination?

The choice is between the 2011 Durango and 2011 Explorer, and here's what I computed for the Explorer:

Explorer curb wt: 4,695
Passengers wt: 500
Cargo wt: 300
RV Trailer GVWR: 3,800
Total Combined wt: 9,295
Explorer rated GCWR: 10,095

I'll get it with the tow pkg, which is rated to tow 5,000Lbs, and will need to use a Weight Distribution Hitch as the RV trailer is over 3,500Lbs

Any of you guys tow anything similar with the Explorer, and is this a good combination?

You'll be fine. The 5K limit is to make sure ppl dont go over 5K, you know the type, ("I can tow our 10K trailer, its only a few miles...") your 800lbs under what its rated for.
