I have a Kicker ZR240 amp that I'm using right now to power my subs. Soon, I plan on getting a more powerful Kicker amp for my subs, and using my current one to power the door speakers. My question is, will this amp be too powerful? I have a pair of 180 W Pioneer 6x8's in the front and a pair of 120 W Kenwood Excelons in the rear. Just curious.

the rms power is more important than the peak power.
if you set the high pass crossover so the bass wont go to the 6X8s, then it should be fine. there are other people using that amp to power component sets.

Well, all I can tell ya, is I got the ZX 460, and thre claim 30x4, and it's i believe 45-50x4.... I've got fosgate components up front, kickers in the rear... they're loud as hell, and the amp is only at about half power now... :)

I was thinking about getting a component set for the front doors, like round 6 inchers or something (I'm not too familiar with component sets). Use the 240 to power that. But, still making up my mind...

BTW, I'm going for bass, not a lot of treble.

then definately get a component set for the front. it will add midbass in you system. the subwoofers will handle the sub bass.

but if you dont get the comp set right away, you can still use the amp like i said (with the high pass crossover set to block the lows). you can adjust it. set it so it blocks out the real deep bass that will damage the speakers anyway. the mids and highs will still be there, and the subs will handle the deep bass. it wont be all treble, it'll just be louder without distorting from deep bass.

Ok great, thanks for your help.

Do you have any recommendations on a component set? I would like to keep it in the Kicker or Kenwood brand. Any other brands that are good, tell me about em too.

Kicker comp sets are really good. my first system in my explorer had Kicker 5 1/4" components in the kick panels. they sounded great. i gave them to a friend when i bought my Audiobahn components.

you might as well stick with Kicker. they're a great brand and you have mostly Kicker stuff anyway.

Tho kicker is expensive, I love their amps and components... not a fan of the subs, but that's a matter of opinion... otherwise, their stuff is good! :)

Good, I want to stick with Kicker. Two questions:

Can you put those 5 1/4 speakers in the doors relativly easily with a bracket or do you have to have the special kick panels?

And

Is 5 1/4 the biggest that will fit in the doors?

you could mount them in the doors, i just liked the kickpanels better. and i think you can fit up to 6 1/2" in the doors.

Who are the kick panels made by and how much are they?

Q-logic makes a set for about $150. some places might have them cheaper. or you could make your own with fiberglass and MDF.

Makin kick panels are hard... look at my photo point link in my sig... in there were my first 2 attempts... still workin on improved new ones! hard, yes. Cheaper, alot... self gratifying, of course!

the link doesnt work for me.

that's cool that you are making your own. custom work is the best. and it's always impressive, even if it's something simple.

The link is a no go for me as well.

$150 isn't a bad price, I don't mind paying that much for them.

Hmm I couldn't get anything photopoint to work... oh well... um... I've got pics around somewhere, maybe I'll find a way to post em

Overpowering not that bad...

Overpowering speakers (especially tweeters) is not going to harm them, unless you're trying to feed hundreds of watts into a small speaker. It's much worse to underpower a speaker. This can actually damage them more easily than too much power. Just keep that in mind.
