I thought the 5R55E wasn't compatible with trucks that take the 4R55E? without swapping valve bodies?

It should be. If you get an early 97 5r55e it may have an extra connector but you can ignore that. they eliminated it mid-production year and tuned it out of the PCM on the ones that did have it.

Thanks for replying rickybobby. So, those instructions ARE the correct way to do it? No swapping anything? This 5R55E came out of a 98 Explorer. Thanks so much for your feedback.

Yes, it should just bolt up and plug in. If you want to be 100 percent sure, send a PM to Nice59f100, he has access to better info than I do and could verify part numbers on the electronics

NICE59F100 still hasn't responded, does he get on this forum very often? Sorry if i'm being pushy...I just wanna get started with the tranny replacement.

**UPDATE** NICE59F100 responded and said it will not work unless major modifications are done. I decided not to mess around with it so I just had my 4R rebuilt for $400. Cheap...yes.
