Is this Mounty worth $450? Lots of pics

sounds like a plan

I was originally interested in a 5.4L because of the greater low to mid engine speed torque. However, I'm strictly a mechanic/electrical engineer and I don't weld or do sheet metal work. Then I looked at stroking a 4.6L but it doesn't have much room for displacement increase and the cost would be more than I wanted to spend. I am pleased with the torque increase I got when I added an M90 to my SOHC V6 so supercharging a DOHC 4.6L will be my long term goal for a 3rd Gen with street driving pleasure.

It sounds like you have a good plan and an appreciation for what needs to be done. I wish you would consider periodically posting progress updates because I (and I'm sure others) will be very interested. Good luck with your build!

As I understand, the TC stall speed of the Ex/Mnty coupled with the 5.4, tries to put 700 hp through the 5R55 trans. Probably why he lost 1st and 2nd. I believe he ended up going with a TC from precision? They run almost $900.

2000StreetRod, I'm not a fabricator either, but Harbor Freight may afford me to become one. I'll post something as I go. But if it works out, I'd do a stand alone build thread. With lots of pictures. We all love pictures.

I'm excited to see how this comes along. Good luck to you my friend!

$400 and a "free" AAA, and she's now mine.

Your wife must love you LOL

I planned ahead, she kept saying last week "I want this," "I want that." Mean while I'm adding it up. But honey, you spent that much in flowers. I was reminded that flowers in the yard look better than a 'non' working vehicle in the driveway.

Oh, and it has the 'door ajar' issue too! lol.

I been married long enough, been in many of those situations. Let her think she won even though you did. LOL!!!

Keep us posted and best of luck!

All that engine + D4s, gonna wanna see some 35s on that piece, no doubt.

Well, not to get anyone too excited, but the '94's been completed for some time. Mounty's been in the garage. I was having a friends 16 yr old son tear the engine down to pull the heads. Sadly, this project started months ago and I've run out of time. I'll have to dig in myself.

Has blown head gaskets, visible via one cylinder per head. I've only seen V6 4.0's with cams this nasty. And look at the timing cover. Perhaps this is what happens when coolant mixes with oil.

I plan to replace the head gaskets and timing components (note, timing appears to be original. Engine has just over 200k on it. I also wasn't aware that '03's had metal tensioners.) Hopefully have a running engine before I pull it. I'll probably wait till summer to pull the Navi engine, need the garage to do so and would prefer warmer weather.

Nice find "Number4"! Us northerners would kill for a body as good as that. Replace that hitch? We call that mint.

We'll be heading to St. Simons Island GA next week for the winter. My favorite thing to do, is hit the JY's.

Tom

Love me some JY time.
