so i decided to tackle my oil leak today on my 04 explorer 4.0 i wiped down the oil pan and the surrounding areas and took a video as i started up my truck at :50-1:00 in the video you can see the leak start up and a good drip starts to flow. im guessing the leak must slow significantly after the motor heats up cuz im only putting in a quart once every two weeks. my fingers are crossed you guys dont say main seal! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1BWsV6_fg0

Looks like rear main seal. Possibly a very leaky valve cover. But I'm almost positive it's the main seal.

So I guess I'm gonna give that barrs rear main seal leak stopper a try, also gonna do an oil change and put in some high mileage 10w 40 and hope that makes a difference cuz i checked the area around my pcv valve and it's just got some soot built up no sign of an oil leak. On the passenger side there's a tiny bit of oil right above where the timing chain tensioner is but I've watched that spot and felt around the backside there and there is no oil coming from that area...thanks for watching the video and for offering an opinion

So I used the leak repair, switched to a high mileage 10w 40 when I did my oil change around noon today after cleaning the car inside and out then drove it for about an hour. I noticed almost immediately as I left one place I didn't leave an oil stain and then another so I was feeling quite hopeful. I let it sit for about 90 minutes then went out and started it up. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fXDYmTOLAK4 The seal leak repair said it takes up to two days to take affect so I think the reduction in the leak has more to do with the oil I chose.
