Okay so I neglected to take care of my starmate 5 receiver and the toddler got a hold of it and broke it so for the past month I've been farting around trying to figure out what I want to do with this as Sirius won't cover it because I've had it for a few years.
Anyway, I could care less about that but here are my issues.....
I was originally looking into a new sat ready radio and found one that I liked but of course it was damaged when I went to go install it (previously opened apparently) and now the store I bought it from doesn't seem to carry it anymore....go figure. I originally purchased a Clarion that was a double din and not the corporate double din so I brought it back not wanting to mess around with the radio bezel.
So I then found out my Sony deck (I didn't purchase, was installed already when I got the truck) was XM capable and so I bought the SNYSC1 to get Sirius to work and coupled it with the SCC1 sirius tuner and installed them. After activation I was fumbling with the sony receiver and hated the fact that it only scrolled 1 line of text regarding the sirius channel information. That sucked. I could view song title but not artist or channel etc. So I scrapped that idea.
Now I'm back to just going to buy another sirius receiver but I hated the fact I got engine noise through it and also had to crank up the Sony stereo volume so that the Sirius volume sounded good (the sirius unit was hooked up through the AUX input in the back of the Sony stereo). So if I wanted to flip back to FM radio, I'd be blasted because the volume had to be cranked up so the sirius volume control was good.
So my options are to:
1.) Get a new sat ready radio.....the question is should I expect a new radio to display all the sirius channel information properly (channel, artist, song) all on the screen without having to cursor or change display to get all the information.
or
2.) Just get another Sirius receiver.....the question is how the heck do I get the volume part under control and the engine noise out (the engine noise occurs at a lower sirius volume, but when I get the volume up I can't notice it).
In a small way I do like my sony radio just for the shear fact that it's not removeable (no detach faceplate to worry about) and it's blacked out when off with no fancy knobs or anything. Very plain jane and discreet when it's off. I just hate the fact the volume sucks and that the Sirius connection didn't display nice through it.
I also like the fact that if I get a Sirius receiver again it's portable and can hook it up to the Sirius boombox to listen outside. I guess if we can fix this volume thing and engine noise I'll just stick with the sirius receiver.
....originally I added a female cigarette adapter in the sport trac and wired it to the ignition wire on the radio. I would like to hard wire it in and I know I can still use the cigarette adapter with it's 12V to 5V circuitry but not sure what to do about the fuse in it? Do I need it or should I install and inline fuse?
Anyway, I could care less about that but here are my issues.....
